Traffic congestion in Istanbul ahead of the holiday

As the 9-day holiday began following the end of working hours, traffic flow slowed down in many parts of the city as citizens set out to spend the holiday in their hometowns or at vacation spots. 

Traffic congestion is being observed on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet and 15 July Martyrs bridges for crossings from the European side to the Anatolian side. Consequently, congestion has formed on the TEM Highway on the European side up to the Levent connection, and on the D-100 highway up to the Çağlayan area.

Light traffic congestion has also occurred on the coastal road between Karaköy and Beşiktaş Square, as well as on Barbaros Boulevard.

On the Anatolian side, drivers are having difficulty moving on the TEM Highway from the Ünalan connection to the Çamlıca Toll Booths. There is also extreme congestion between Sancaktepe and Sultanbeyli in the direction of Ankara.

On the D-100 highway, vehicles are moving slowly due to intermittent traffic congestion between Göztepe and Maltepe, and between Kartal and Pendik in the direction of Ankara.

Following the end of working hours, crowds also formed at tram, metro, bus, and metrobus stops.
