'Translation' error at Boğaziçi University becomes a talking point
One of the containers at Boğaziçi University was converted into a 'staff rest room,' but the English translation provided was 'Staff listening room,' which means 'staff eavesdropping room.'
According to Mehmet Baran Kılıç from Politik Yol, the Boğaziçi University administration converted containers originally brought for dogs into 'rest rooms' for staff.
The doors of these rooms were labeled 'Personel dinlenme odası' (Staff rest room). Below this, the English translation provided was 'Staff listening room,' which means 'staff eavesdropping room.'
The report also provided the correct translation for the expression:
"While 'listening' describes the act of 'hearing,' the English word that describes staff resting is 'resting.'
Apart from this, 'staff room' is a sufficient term to describe the area in question."
