Trial for the Istiklal Avenue bombing postponed

The 5th hearing of the trial regarding the bombing on Istiklal Avenue, one of the symbols of Istanbul, which resulted in the deaths of 6 people and injuries to 99 others on November 13, 2022, was held today at the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court. The court adjourned the hearing to April 26 for a verdict.

Trial for the Istiklal Avenue bombing postponed

On Istanbul's Taksim Istiklal Avenue, the 5th hearing of the trial involving 36 defendants regarding the bombing on November 13, 2022, which left 6 people dead and 99 injured, was held today at the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court.

Ahlam Albashir and 5 other defendants were brought to the hearing, while some defendants joined via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS).

During the hearing, the defendants did not accept the charges brought against them. Ahlam Albashır, who did not provide a defense, stated, "I have nothing to say."

Announcing its interim decision, the court ruled for the continuation of the detention of 10 imprisoned defendants and adjourned the hearing to April 26 for a verdict.

In the prosecutor's opinion, it was requested that Ahlam Albashır be sentenced to a total of 7 aggravated life sentences and between 1,949.5 and 3,009 years in prison for the crimes of 'disrupting the unity and integrity of the state', 'membership in an armed terrorist organization', 'premeditated murder of a child by bombing', 5 counts of 'premeditated murder by bombing', 99 counts of 'attempted premeditated murder by bombing', and 'unauthorized possession or transfer of dangerous substances'.
