Trial for the murder of Ayşe Tokyaz begins: Shameless remarks from killer Cemil Koç

The trial for the murder of 22-year-old university student Ayşe Tokyaz, who was killed by former police officer Cemil Koç on July 11 and whose body was placed in a suitcase and left by the roadside in Eyüpsultan, begins today. In the case to be heard at the Küçükçekmece 2nd High Criminal Court, 9 defendants, including the murder suspect Cemil Koç, will appear before the judge for the first time today.

The hearing at the Küçükçekmece 2nd High Criminal Court was attended by the detained defendants, including Cemil Koç, as well as the complainants—twin sister Esra and mother Halime Tokyaz—representatives of non-governmental organizations, and numerous members of the press. The hearing began with the roll call of the defendants.

DEFENDANT CEMİL KOÇ: "I WILL LOOK WHEREVER I WANT"

When Cemil Koç looked at Esra Tokyaz in the courtroom, Tokyaz reacted. After Koç said, "I will look wherever I want," the complainant Tokyaz threw the frame containing Ayşe Tokyaz's photograph, which was on the table, and water at the defendants. The presiding judge warned the defendants to face only the bench.

The hearing continues with the defense statements of the defendants.

FROM THE INDICTMENT

In the indictment prepared by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Ayşe Tokyaz is listed as the 'victim', her twin sister Esra Tokyaz as the 'complainant', and 9 individuals, including suspect Cemil Koç (38), as 'suspects'.

The indictment states that on the day of the incident, complainant Esra Tokyaz went to the Küçükçekmece Halkalı Police Station to give a statement. In her statement, she noted that she had a video call with her sister Ayşe Tokyaz, during which her sister's face and mouth were bruised and covered in blood, and that Ayşe told Esra she had been beaten by Cemil Koç and shared her address. Esra Tokyaz went to the address to see her sister, and Cemil Koç opened the door. The indictment notes that Cemil Koç told Esra Tokyaz her sister was not there, after which Esra Tokyaz searched for Ayşe Tokyaz for 3 days, reported the situation to the police when she could not find her, and filed a complaint against Cemil Koç for beating and detaining her sister.

KOÇ HAS 8 CRIMINAL RECORDS

The indictment mentions that Cemil Koç and Ayşe Tokyaz had been in a relationship for some time and that Koç had been dismissed from the police force. It states that Koç has a total of 8 judicial records, including 1 suspicious death, 3 intentional injuries, and 1 threat. The indictment includes that the victim Tokyaz sometimes stayed at the defendant Koç's house, and last went to the residence on July 7, four days before the incident. There, she fought with Cemil Koç, after which Tokyaz returned to the student dormitory where she was staying in Beşiktaş. She then video-called her sister, complainant Esra Tokyaz, and during the call, there was ecchymosis and bleeding on her face, and she told her sister she had been beaten by Cemil Koç. Esra Tokyaz then arrived at the scene with Cemal Arslan, who had accompanied her. Suspect Cemil Koç opened the door; after Esra Tokyaz returned the rings and asked for Ayşe Tokyaz, Cemil Koç claimed she had left the house. Upon seeing Ayşe's shoes in front of the door, Esra Tokyaz feared for Ayşe Tokyaz's life and applied to the police station.

ATK REPORT FINDING: COCAINE SUBSTANCES DETECTED IN TOKYAZ'S BODY

The autopsy report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) Istanbul Morgue Specialization Department was also included in the indictment. The report states that various cocaine substances were found in Ayşe Tokyaz's body, and that drugs or stimulants were present in her gallbladder and urine. It was determined that the death of the victim, Ayşe Tokyaz, in whose body stimulant metabolites were detected, occurred as a result of a brain hemorrhage accompanied by a nasal bone fracture due to blunt head trauma. The report also noted that she had suffered a brain hemorrhage, a bloodstain was detected on her clothing, and there were findings of physical assault on her skull and lower lip.

AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE DEMANDED FOR CEMİL KOÇ AND THE DEFENDANT WHO ASSISTED HIM

In the prepared indictment, an aggravated life sentence was demanded for defendant Cemil Koç for the crime of 'premeditated murder against a woman with monstrous feeling and torture', and 4 to 15 years in prison for the crimes of 'depriving a person of liberty using force, threat, or deception' and 'blackmail'. For the other 7 detained defendants, a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years was demanded for the crime of 'aiding and abetting premeditated murder against a woman with monstrous feeling and torture'. Upon the determination that Oğuz Kal participated in the crime committed by suspect Cemil Koç, an aggravated life sentence was demanded for 'complicity in premeditated murder against a woman with monstrous feeling and torture', along with 3 to 12 years in prison for other charges.

On the other hand, the prepared indictment had been accepted by the Küçükçekmece 2nd High Criminal Court.
