Trial of Selahattin Demirtaş adjourned!

The hearing for the trial of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is being tried on charges of "publicly degrading the government of the Republic of Turkey, judicial bodies, and military or security organizations," was held today.

Demirtaş, who is currently incarcerated in the Edirne F-Type High-Security Prison for a separate conviction, did not attend the hearing at the Mersin 14th Criminal Court of First Instance.

The defense attorney present in the courtroom requested additional time for his client to prepare a defense against the opinion presented in the previous session.

The judge accepted the request and adjourned the hearing until July 17.

Ten separate case files opened against Demirtaş on the grounds that he "publicly degraded the government of the Republic of Turkey, judicial bodies, and military or security organizations" in speeches across various platforms had been consolidated; two of these files were later separated following an appeal and sent to the Istanbul 47th Criminal Court of First Instance.
