Trial regarding the death of Ferdi Zeyrek begins
The first hearing of the trial concerning the death of CHP Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, who lost his life after being electrocuted in Manisa, will be held tomorrow.
In the trial to be heard at the Manisa 5th High Criminal Court, a total of 10 defendants, 2 of whom are in custody, will be tried on charges of "causing death and injury by negligence." The defendants face prison sentences ranging from 2 to 15 years.
The indictment states that the detained defendant N.B. installed the pool's electromechanical system without the necessary project planning and competency certificates, used equipment without a CE declaration of conformity, and installed the electrical panel without authorization. It is alleged that the other detained defendant, H.I., removed pumps and repaired motors without a competency certificate and performed installations without ensuring proper insulation.
ALLEGATIONS OF NEGLIGENCE
It is claimed that site employee A.S., who is among the defendants tried without detention, failed to issue the necessary warnings despite noticing a water leak in the pool and did not inform the Zeyrek couple. It is also alleged that Y.Ö., who was responsible for pool maintenance, did not shut down the faulty equipment and failed to warn users.
It is stated that H.A., the owner of the winding company, allowed his employee H.I. to perform maintenance despite his lack of competence and failed to conduct inspections. It is further stated that M.G., an official from the contracting firm, assigned work to individuals without competency certificates and failed to perform the necessary oversight.
It is alleged that M.E., an employee of the electricity distribution company, approved internal installation reports without inspection and allowed energy to be supplied to an installation that was outside the project scope. It is also stated that building inspection engineers R.A., H.Ş., and M.Ç. failed to inspect the installation, which was positioned in violation of standards, and did not prepare compliance reports in accordance with procedures.
BACKGROUND OF THE INCIDENT
On June 6, Ferdi Zeyrek was electrocuted while attempting to check a malfunction in the machine room of the pool at his home in the Yunusemre district; he passed away on June 9 at the hospital where he had been taken in critical condition. His wife, Nurcan Zeyrek, was also injured while trying to save her husband.
The indictment prepared by the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requests that the defendants be punished for the crime of causing the death of one person and the injury of another by negligence. Additionally, authorization for an investigation has been requested regarding M.S. and Ö.T., who are officials at the Yunusemre Municipality.
