Tried in the Hrant Dink murder case: That figure has joined the CHP

It has been reported that Ecevit Emir, a former Gendarmerie Intelligence officer who was tried and spent time in prison in the case regarding the assassination of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink, has entered politics. Emir, who was elected mayor of the Yeleğen town in the Eşme district of Uşak as an independent candidate, subsequently joined the CHP.

TRIED IN THE DINK MURDER CASE 

Emir, who was serving in the Intelligence Branch of the Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command at the time of the Hrant Dink murder, was accused of being present at the scene of the crime. 

While telephone signal data and camera footage were presented as evidence, Emir, who remained in custody for a period during the trial process, was acquitted on March 26, 2021. However, lawyers for the Dink family appealed the decision and took the file to the Constitutional Court. The file is still awaiting review at the Constitutional Court.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL ATTACHED THE PIN  

The CHP did not nominate Emir for the Yeleğen Municipality, but Emir entered the election as an independent candidate and won the mayoral seat. Emir, who began his term without a party affiliation, joined the CHP on July 9, 2024, when CHP Chairman Özgür Özel attached his party pin.

Emir's political career was announced through a social media post by CHP Uşak Deputy Ali Karaoba. The fact that Emir, whom the CHP did not nominate, joined the party has sparked public debate due to his past judicial process.
