Troubles in Hatay never end: Construction worker shortage

Following the February 6 Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, the construction process continues in Hatay. While there is a labor shortage for the ongoing construction projects, representatives of the construction sector are calling on masters who are struggling to find work, saying, "You can come to Hatay and work."

INTENSE FOR 2 YEARS

Formwork master Ahmet Turunç stated that their work is quite intense and that this intensity will continue for the next 2 years, saying, "We have a problem finding workers. We will try to rebuild our beautiful Hatay as much as we can. Because our work is heavy, no one wants to take it on. At this rate, it looks like this intensity will continue for about 2 years, but we are really very tired. The daily wage of a formwork master in Hatay is on average 1,500 TL. I wish such a disaster had not happened and there was no such intensity."

"COME TO HATAY" CALL

Formwork master Mecit Özçelik stated that daily wages reach an average of 1,500 TL and issued a "Come to Hatay" call to citizens who are having trouble finding work in other provinces.

Özçelik said, "There is a lot of work intensity in Hatay after the earthquake. We cannot keep up with this intensity. The daily wage of a formwork master is 1,500 TL. There are no new workers coming up, and there is a job market in the region. Those who want to come can come from other provinces and work," he stated.
