Truck sent to transport bodies of those who lost their lives in Bolu sparks backlash
Due to the hospital morgue reaching capacity, the bodies were placed in a refrigerated truck belonging to the Beypiliç company. The presence of a roasted chicken image on the truck sparked backlash on social media. The company released a statement regarding the incident on its social media account.
79 people lost their lives in a fire at a hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center, where 238 people were staying.
Those who lost their lives in the fire were taken to the morgue of the Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal Training and Research Hospital.
Because the morgue capacity was full, the bodies were placed in a refrigerated truck belonging to Beypiliç. While the chicken image on the truck sparked backlash on social media, Beypiliç made a statement regarding the incident.
Beypiliç made a statement regarding the incident on its social media account.
The statement is as follows:
"Since our priority was to provide rapid support, no time was lost on vehicle wraps in the first stage.
Dear Citizens, we are filled with the pain of our citizens who lost their lives in the tragic incident that occurred in Bolu Kartalkaya and deeply shook us all. Following the tragic incident, upon the request of official institutions, we sent our vehicles equipped with cold storage systems to the scene with a sense of social solidarity.
As is known in such incidents, racing against time and taking rapid action is extremely important.
Since our priority was to provide rapid support, no time was lost on vehicle wraps in the first stage, but our team members who set out subsequently covered the logos on our vehicles that reached the scene.
However, the fact that members of the press circulated photos taken before our vehicles were covered has deeply saddened our sensitive citizens and our institution, which was there solely for the purpose of helping.
It is never out of the question for our brand to exploit such painful events that wound our society for advertising purposes. We wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives, offer our condolences to their families and loved ones, and wish a speedy recovery to our injured citizens.”
