Trump's statement on Iran: 'I am not in a negotiating mood'
As the Israel-Iran war enters its fifth day, US President Donald Trump has made a notable statement. Trump said he is not keen on negotiating with Iran for a nuclear deal, but left the door open to sending a special envoy.
As the clashes between Israel and Iran continue for days, US President Donald Trump spoke to reporters on Air Force One while returning from the G7 Leaders' Summit in Canada. While stating that they want to reach a clear conclusion for a nuclear deal with Iran, Trump emphasized that he is not very enthusiastic about negotiations at this stage.
“I AM NOT REALLY IN A NEGOTIATING MOOD”
Stating that he will closely monitor developments in the Middle East from the Situation Room at the White House, Trump said, “I am not really in a negotiating mood with Iran. You will see in the next two days. No one has slowed down yet,” implying that the course of the current tension will become clear in a short time.
Although Trump displayed a reluctant attitude toward direct talks with Iran, he said that US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance could participate in the talks.
Trump clearly stated that a “harsh” response would be given if Iran harms US forces or citizens. Stating that Iran knows it should not touch the US military, Trump expressed that there would be no concessions on this matter.
Claiming that Iran is very close to producing nuclear weapons, Trump said that intense efforts are being made to evacuate Americans in the region despite the closed airspace. He stated that crisis management is being carried out by saying, “We are doing our best.”
RESPONSE TO RUSSIA AND NORTH KOREA SUSPICION
When asked if there was any sign that North Korea or Russia was helping Iran, Trump replied, “I haven't seen anything like that.”
HE HAD SAID “I GAVE IRAN 60 DAYS”
In a previous statement, Trump had stated that he gave Iran 60 days for a deal, but did not receive a positive response at the end of this period. “I am in constant contact with both sides. This deal will be signed. It is stupid for Iran to reject this,” said Trump, pointing to the start of the attacks with the words, “You saw what happened on the 61st day.”
