Trustee claim to shake the agenda for IMM! 'In place of İmamoğlu...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained yesterday morning in a dawn operation as part of the 'terrorism' and 'corruption' investigation launched into the IMM.

The fact that one of the investigations launched against İmamoğlu involves 'terrorism' has brought the possibility of a trustee to mind.

Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk brought a highly discussed claim to the agenda in his article today.

Emphasizing that the trustee option is on the table, Öztürk also pointed to a specific name for the person who could be appointed in place of İmamoğlu.

Drawing attention to the 'urban consensus' in the investigation, Öztürk stated, "The appointment of a trustee in place of İmamoğlu can only be done based on the allegation of a 'terror connection'. Following the coup attempt, an amendment was made to the Municipal Law by Presidential Decree; accordingly, a trustee is appointed in place of a mayor who is determined to have links to terrorism or who is suspended as part of an investigation in this direction."

WHO WOULD BE APPOINTED AS TRUSTEE IN PLACE OF İMAMOĞLU?

Answering the question "Who would be appointed as trustee in place of İmamoğlu?", Öztürk said, "In metropolitan municipalities and provinces, the provincial governor is appointed as the trustee, while in districts, a district governor or deputy governor is assigned," pointing to Istanbul Governor Davut Gül without naming him.
