While reactions continue regarding the arrest of CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place, trustees were also appointed yesterday (November 4) to the DEM Party-run municipalities of Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti.

The question of how the Supreme Election Council (YSK) permitted the candidacy of these mayors, who were removed from office on the grounds that they are under investigation for terrorism, has become a subject of curiosity.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, in his statement regarding the trustees, said, "The reason why the YSK permitted the candidacies of these individuals should be questioned."

While no statement has come from the YSK regarding the trustees appointed to the 4 municipalities, it has emerged that YSK President Ahmet Yener and YSK Member Ali Ürker have gone to Washington to observe the presidential elections in the United States on-site.

YSK President Yener and YSK Member Ürker paid a visit to Washington for the US elections to be held tomorrow.

Within the scope of the visit, the YSK delegation, which visited the Federal Election Commission, will also visit other institutions operating in the field of elections and will observe the entire election process, including the day of voting, on-site.

Tax Expert Ozan Bingöl reacted to YSK President Ahmet Yener's trip to the US during days when trustees are being discussed in Turkey.

Stating that the delegation traveling abroad receives a daily travel allowance of 182 dollars, Bingöl said the following:

“We wake up every day to news of trustees. Democracy has been shelved. But the YSK President is going to the US.

While going, they receive a daily allowance of 182 dollars. That makes 6,200 TL. Furthermore, if the hotel is more than 40 percent above the limit, the state will pay the entire amount as well.

Hotel expenses, airfare, and a daily allowance of 182 dollars… For what? To follow the US elections. If we were to ask him if there are any remnants of democracy in the country. The date he went is the date we are discussing the trustees.”
