TTB calls for masks in public transport
The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has requested that measures such as the free distribution of masks and the encouragement of mask usage in public transport be implemented in the face of a serious epidemic caused by respiratory diseases.
The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) stated that the country is facing a serious epidemic due to respiratory diseases and sent letters to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and transportation agencies on December 28, 2023. The letters called for the implementation of measures such as the free distribution of masks and the encouragement of mask usage.
The letters emphasized that public health must be prioritized and scientific measures must be taken, noting the importance of conducting the fight against epidemics with the participation of the public and institutions. Warning that respiratory infections may increase during the winter months, it was stated that the country is facing a serious epidemic caused by factors such as the influenza virus, COVID-19 (JN.1 variant), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and mycoplasma pneumoniae.
The letters highlighted that simple regulations in public transport vehicles could have a positive impact on public health and emphasized the importance of free mask distribution and encouraging mask usage.
