Tuğrul Türkeş, granted permission to visit Kavala, speaks to 12punto: 'I am fighting a legal battle'

The Ministry of Justice has finally granted permission to AKP MP Tuğrul Türkeş, whose request to meet with Osman Kavala, Mine Özerden, and Çiğdem Mater—who are imprisoned in the Gezi Park trial—had caused a crisis. Türkeş, who will visit Kavala, Mine Özerden, and Çiğdem Mater, said, "I do not know any of them. I am simply fighting this battle regarding our legal system."

Following the Ministry of Justice's verbal approval, we asked Tuğrul Türkeş when he would go to the Silivri and Bakırköy prisons.

Stating that he has some important business in Ankara next week, Türkeş said he would go toward the end of the weekend or next week.

Türkeş answered our question, "What will you discuss; what is on your agenda?" as follows:

"I do not know any of them. We have never met or spoken. We do not even share a common worldview. I am fighting this battle entirely regarding our legal system. In a sense, it will be a courtesy visit. We will get to know each other. I may have questions for them, and they may have questions for me. It is a breath of fresh air. They will get to see the man who has been causing this stir for 3 months in the flesh."
