Tuğrul Türkeş speaks out on Sinan Ateş case. Ayşe Ateş’s swift response: I would sign my name to it

The trial regarding the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş is set to begin on July 1. While statements continue to come from many fronts ahead of the trial, AKP member Tuğrul Türkeş has recently emerged with a post in which he commented on the MHP and the trial process.

Stating that he does not find it correct to place the MHP at the center of the ongoing process or to level accusations through the party, Türkeş mentioned that it is important for the trial to conclude as soon as possible and for the criminals to serve their sentences.

AKP Ankara Deputy Tuğrul Türkeş, son of MHP founder Alparslan Türkeş, stated in his written statement, “This matter is a serious criminal offense. There is no ideological side to this issue. The parties who want to take advantage of the issue also have no ideological side.”

AYŞE ATEŞ'S 'I WOULD SIGN MY NAME TO IT' RESPONSE

Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş, also shared Tuğrul Türkeş's post on her social media account and said that she would sign her name under the expressions used by Türkeş. Ateş stated that she does not want to identify the court with a party, but she also listed the issues that need to be brought to light one by one.

Ateş used the following expressions:

My dear Deputy, I would like you to know that I largely agree with this text, which contains many meanings, warnings, and advice for those who understand, and that I would sign my name under many of its points without hesitation.

We have been saying this for exactly 18 months: Crime is personal. Whoever is involved in this crime must be brought before the judiciary regardless of their position or rank, and the path for this must be cleared. Who is guilty and who is innocent must be decided by an INDEPENDENT judiciary.

With your kind permission, I will share again the aspects of this political assassination that cause us great concern and that prompted us to take urgent action after 16 months:

1) It is obvious that the process in the early days of this assassination case, where suspects were repeatedly detained and released and only finally arrested, paved the way for the destruction of evidence. At the end of this process, the suspects declared that they had either broken their phones, changed their phones, or forgotten their passwords.

2) Whenever the investigation made progress, the prosecutor was changed, and the prosecutors who were the main actors in the progress of the investigation were demoted and sent out of Ankara. The concern that these developments will cause pressure on the current court panel is growing. The sentences uttered by Tolgahan Demirbaş, who is being tried as an "instigator," during his SEGBİS interrogation while pointing this out to Prosecutor Ayhan Ay are quite clear.

3) In addition to all these developments, incidents that push us to think that there is political pressure on this file have occurred, such as the indictment having many missing aspects, the license plates of the vehicles carrying the murderer being hidden—despite being in the file—only three lines being allocated to my pages-long statement, the statements of Sinan's closest friends not being included in the indictment, and the files of 17 people being kept separate.

Of course, the question arises here: If there is no political pressure, who is responsible for the developments I shared with you above, which clearly reveal that there is interference?

If there is no political power protecting these criminals, the idea that we are facing a comprehensive criminal organization that can reach information that a public prosecutor cannot reach without an official letter via a WhatsApp message, and that can involve police officers in the murder it committed, and that has the power to interfere with the judiciary, gains strength.

If this is the case, is this not a national security issue?

In the open letter I wrote to our Ministers in recent days, I drew attention to this and stated that uncovering this dark hand—political or otherwise—hovering over the file is the path to illuminating all aspects of this vile assassination. Undoubtedly, uncovering this dark hand will be more than enough to clear up many question marks in people's minds.

Finally, I would like to clarify this: We do not have any anxiety about going to the hearing in large numbers. Because we are right. We know that righteousness has an invisible army. All our efforts are to keep public interest alive and, as ordinary citizens, to receive legal support from political parties against the power of the darkness we face.

We are aware and conscious that justice is not realized among crowds, but in courtrooms. This is exactly why we voice our need for the independence of the judiciary not to be overshadowed, for criminals not to be protected, and for justice to be served.

WHAT IS IN TUĞRUL TÜRKEŞ'S STATEMENT?

AKP member Tuğrul Türkeş used the following expressions in his statement regarding the MHP and the trial process:

“One and a half years have passed since the Sinan Ateş murder. During this time, despite all my sadness, I have taken care not to speak and not to make any comments.

The parties, and even those who do not take any side, are trying to take advantage of every opportunity, from family visits to channel hopping.

On July 01, 2024, this case is finally starting to be heard, with all its shortcomings and missing parts.

As of the point reached, the situation is as follows.

1- Sinan Ateş was murdered as a result of an assassination on Friday, December 30, 2022, leaving behind a tearful wife and two orphans who will grow up longing for their father.

2- This matter is a serious criminal offense.

3- There is no ideological side to this issue.

4 The parties who want to take advantage of this issue also have no ideological side.

5- Those who want to come to the hearing starting on July 01, 2024, in large numbers; and those who do not want to let them in, also have no ideological side.

6- My article titled RAMPANT NATIONALISM, which I penned on January 17, 2021, out of concern for what was happening in those days, was exactly to draw attention to this bad trend in the world and our country, which I saw happening, and to try to prevent it to some extent.

7- Likewise, in many speeches, I emphasized the importance of the rule of law and remaining committed to the law. I expressed that a modern and prosperous Turkey; that is, the goal that nationalists desire, should desire, and want to reach; and therefore the "IDEAL" (ÜLKÜ) can be achieved through this path.

8- Today, leaving aside all titles, as a simple Turkish Citizen and Turkish Nationalist, I want to draw attention to the following points;

A- Turkish nationalism is not a party and/or stakeholder in this matter.

B- The Nationalist Movement Party (my father's party) cannot be identified with such a crime and the individual criminals who committed it.

C- It should not be Turkish Nationalism and the MHP corporate identity that are put on the scales; it should be our slow-moving legal system and those who hinder it.

D- Likewise, the People's Alliance and its valuable administrators are also free from these dirty criminal organizations.

E- There is no political gain for the opposition in this chaos either. Let the common criminals be tried as they deserve.

To those who want to stir up the country by using this case as an excuse on July 01, 2024, to exhausted politicians who hope for chaos because they cannot produce politics, to gangsters who are far from ideology but want to appear ideological, and to those who are eager to meddle in the country's administration, be it known.”
