Tunisia returns potatoes exported from Turkey citing bacteria

2,500 tons of potatoes sent from Turkey to Tunisia were returned during health inspections on the grounds that they contained harmful bacteria. The destruction of the returned potatoes has begun at the TURYAM Recycling and Disposal Facility in the Tarsus district of Mersin.

The returned potatoes from Tunisia were taken to the disposal facility in Mersin and the destruction process has begun. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry emphasized that the destruction process is underway and that the potatoes will absolutely not be released to the market. Officials stated that they are using special methods to avoid harming the environment.

So far, 400 tons of the 2,500 tons of potatoes have been destroyed.

Although it was claimed that the potatoes sent to Tunisia were clean according to health analyses conducted before they were exported from Turkey, this situation has sparked public debate.
