Turhan Çömez speaks out on 'agricultural frost': Proposes disaster area status
Group deputy chairs of political parties took the floor at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to evaluate the agenda. IYI Party Group Deputy Chair Turhan Çömez also spoke on the issue of 'agricultural frost'.
İYI Party's Çömez expressed his concerns that the recent frost events would significantly increase food inflation.
Stating that they propose that regions suffering damage of over 30 percent must be declared agricultural disaster areas, Çömez stated that debts to Ziraat Bank and Agricultural Credit Cooperatives should be deferred interest-free for at least one year.
Pointing out that the frost event will also have repercussions for the coming year, Çömez noted, "In that regard, it is extremely important that 0-interest loans are provided and steps are taken to allow farmers to catch their breath.
We advocate that electricity and irrigation expenses should be paid with a 50 percent discount." he assessed.
Çömez also reacted to some ministers on the grounds that they did not answer the parliamentary questions he submitted.
