TÜRK-İŞ announces hunger and poverty thresholds
TÜRK-İŞ has announced the June results of its "Hunger and Poverty Threshold Research." According to the study, the hunger threshold is 18,978 lira, while the poverty threshold is 61,820 lira.

The June 2024 results of the "Hunger and Poverty Threshold Research," which TÜRK-İŞ conducts every month to reveal the living conditions of employees and determine the reflections of price changes in basic necessities on the family budget, have been announced.
According to the research, the "hunger threshold," which represents the amount of food expenditure required for a family of four to eat in a healthy, balanced, and sufficient manner, was 18,978 lira and 77 kuruş in June.
The "poverty threshold," which corresponds to the total amount of other mandatory expenditures for needs such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, health, and similar items, was calculated at 61,820 lira and 10 kuruş.
In the research, the "cost of living" for a single employee was determined to be 24,614 lira per month.
The increase in the minimum expenditure amount for food for a family of four living in Ankara was 0.05 percent compared to the previous month. The rate of change over the last 12 months reached 82.96 percent.
According to the information in the research, no significant change was observed in the prices of milk, yogurt, and cheese products in June.
It was stated that beef and lamb prices decreased slightly, partly due to the Eid al-Adha (Kurban Bayramı). It was noted that there was no change in chicken prices. The price of chickpeas and red lentils increased by 3 lira, while the price per kilogram of dried beans and green lentils increased by 5 lira.
In June, the average vegetable price was calculated at 34 lira per kilogram, and the average fruit price was 57 lira per kilogram.
While partial increases were observed in the prices of sunflower oil, olive oil, and butter, the prices of margarine, black olives, and green olives remained stable.
A slight increase was detected in the price of tea, while a partial decrease was observed in sugar prices.
