Türk-İş announces: Hunger and poverty thresholds have soared

TÜRK-İŞ has calculated the hunger threshold for a family of four in September at 19,830 lira and the poverty threshold at 64,595 lira. The hunger threshold increased by 2.9 percent in one month and by 37.41 percent over six months. While the change rate for the last twelve months was calculated at 48.72 percent, the annual average increase was 71.23 percent.

The September 2024 results of the "Hunger and Poverty Threshold Research," conducted by TÜRK-İŞ every month to reveal the living conditions of workers and determine the reflections of price changes in basic necessities on family budgets, have been announced.

POVERTY THRESHOLD RISES TO 64,595 TL

According to the research, the "hunger threshold," which represents the amount of food expenditure required for a family of four to eat in a healthy, balanced, and sufficient manner, was 19,830 lira in September.

The "poverty threshold," which corresponds to the total amount of other mandatory expenditures for needs such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, health, and similar items, was calculated at 64,595 lira.

In the research, the "cost of living" for a single worker was determined to be 25,706 lira per month.

The increase in the minimum food expenditure amount for a family of four living in Ankara was 2.90 percent compared to the previous month.

While the rate of change for the last 12 months was calculated at 48.72 percent, the annual average increase reached 71.23 percent.
