Türk-İş President Atalay warns: We will strike, we will bring the country to a halt

The Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (Türk-İş) celebrated May 1st, Labor Day, in Bursa. Following the union's call, the march that began on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Boulevard ended at the hospital area.

Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay announced in his speech at the venue that approximately 60 thousand people participated in the ceremony.

In his speech, Atalay stated that they would not take a step back regarding severance pay, saying, "We are at the same point regarding severance. We will hold a general strike. God is my witness, we will bring Turkey to a halt."

FIX THIS FREAK SYSTEM

Noting that workers have paid the price in every field in the past and today, Atalay demanded, "We work 12 months regarding taxes; some of our friends receive salaries for 11 months, while others receive them for 10.5 months. This is not fair. Fix this freak system as soon as possible."

YOU CANNOT MAKE ENDS MEET FOR 10 DAYS

On the other hand, stating that the inflation of the last 4 months has 'shattered the country,' the Türk-İş President said, "Both the minimum wage should be increased and inflation should be stopped. You cannot make ends meet for 10 days with a 17 thousand lira minimum wage."

Atalay provided information that they will be in Istanbul for next year's May 1st program.
