TÜRK-İŞ reacts to MÜSİAD over minimum wage
TÜRK-İŞ Vice President Eyüp Alemdar criticized statements by the IMF and MÜSİAD regarding the minimum wage, drawing attention to the economic crisis and the high cost of living. He called for legal regulations to prevent new grievances arising from uncertainty in pension payments.
TÜRK-İŞ Vice President and Koop-İş Union President Eyüp Alemdar issued a written statement delivering important messages regarding the minimum wage, pension payments, and public sector recruitment. Criticizing the statements made by the IMF and MÜSİAD concerning minimum wage increases, Alemdar stated, "The economic crisis and the cost of living are steadily increasing in our country."
'MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE IS NOT THE CAUSE OF INFLATION'
Stating that discussions regarding the minimum wage to be set for 2025 have intensified ahead of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission meetings, Alemdar made the following assessments:
"Statements such as the IMF's 'minimum wage increases should not fuel inflation' and MÜSİAD's 'minimum wage increase should not exceed 25 percent' do not align with the realities of our country. In a period where the economic crisis and the cost of living are rising rapidly, it cannot be ignored that minimum wage earners, in particular, are living under serious hardship. Such statements are far from understanding the public's current problems and are unacceptable."
WARNING OF UNCERTAINTY REGARDING PENSION PAYMENTS
Drawing attention to another important issue that needs to be resolved in working life, Alemdar stated that the uncertainty regarding the fact that those retiring in 2025 will face a 35 percent loss in monthly payments compared to those who retired in 2024 poses a major problem.
"This uncertainty has the potential to victimize millions of retirees. To prevent a new grievance in retirement, legal regulations must be implemented as soon as possible," said Alemdar, emphasizing that swift steps must be taken on this matter.
