Journalist and author Murat Yetkin stated that Turkey has given its approval for Sweden to participate in a NATO exercise expected to begin this week, despite Sweden not yet being a member. Yetkin also touched upon F-16 negotiations with the US.
Journalist and author Murat Yetkin stated that Turkey has given its approval for Sweden to participate in a NATO exercise expected to begin this week, despite Sweden not yet being a member, noting: "It was finalized during the NATO Military Committee meetings held in Brussels on January 17-18, where Turkey was represented by Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak. Therefore, Turkey has also given its approval for Sweden to participate in this important NATO exercise as if it were a member country; all decisions in NATO can be taken by consensus."
F-16 SALE
Noting that Sweden's NATO membership will be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for approval in the near future, Yetkin said: "On December 18, Erdoğan announced that US President Joe Biden had linked the sale of F-16s to Turkey with Sweden's NATO membership during a phone call on December 14, and the approval document he signed in October was approved by the TBMM Foreign Affairs Committee on December 26."
