Turkey-Italy-Libya trilateral summit concludes
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdulhamid Dbeibeh at the Turkey-Italy-Libya Cooperation Summit. The summit addressed cooperation between Turkey, Italy, and Libya, as well as regional issues.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hosted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity Abdulhamid Dbeibeh in Istanbul. President Erdoğan welcomed the leaders individually for the Turkey-Italy-Libya Cooperation Summit at the Presidential Dolmabahçe Office.
The summit addressed cooperation between Turkey, Italy, and Libya, as well as regional issues. At the summit, President Erdoğan drew attention to the importance of cooperation among the three countries in combating the challenges faced by the Mediterranean basin, including irregular migration movements.
President Erdoğan further stated that long-term and sustainable solutions are required to address the root causes of irregular migration, and that multilateral coordination is needed in this regard.
It was decided at the summit that the leaders would reconvene to evaluate the decisions taken following the meetings of the cooperation committees.
Drawing attention to the Israeli aggression in Gaza and the humanitarian tragedy, President Erdoğan emphasized that the international community bears a great responsibility in establishing an immediate ceasefire and delivering humanitarian aid to the region as soon as possible, and that a permanent solution can only be achieved through the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and geographically integrated Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
Following the discussions at the summit, the leaders departed from Dolmabahçe.
