Turkey states that military tension in Libya is being closely monitored
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the military tension between various armed groups in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, is being closely monitored.
In a written statement from the Ministry, it was noted that the military tension between various armed groups in Tripoli is being closely monitored, and a call was made to the parties to establish a full and permanent ceasefire without delay and to engage in dialogue to resolve their disputes.
The statement also included the expression, "Turkey is ready to do its part to ensure a permanent and sustainable solution."
EVENTS IN TRIPOLI
Clashes began in the capital following the killing of Abdulgani al-Kikli, the leader of the Stability Support Apparatus, one of the militia groups in Tripoli, on May 12.
Shortly after, a statement from the government indicated that the 444th Brigade, affiliated with the Ministry of Defense, had seized the central headquarters of the Stability Support Apparatus in Tripoli's Abu Salim district and taken control of the area.
Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh, in a statement on May 13, congratulated members of the army and police force for their success in establishing state authority during the events in Tripoli.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) had called for an unconditional ceasefire in all areas where civilians are present and for issues to be resolved through dialogue.
Clashes between "Rada," considered one of the powerful militia groups in the capital, and government forces began early this morning. Smoke was seen rising from some buildings in various parts of Tripoli.
Around noon, the Libyan Ministry of Defense announced that a ceasefire had been declared in all conflict zones in the capital, Tripoli, as part of efforts to protect civilians.
Mohamed Abdulwahab, the official in charge of health affairs for the Tripoli Municipality, announced that 6 people had died and 70 others were injured during the two days of clashes.
