Turkey submits declaration of intervention in genocide case against Israel to ICJ

Turkey has submitted its declaration of intervention in the genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to the Court.

A delegation consisting of Turkey's Ambassador to The Hague and members of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) delivered Turkey's declaration of intervention to the ICJ Registry today.

The delegation, composed of Ambassador Selçuk Ünal, AK Party Istanbul Deputy Prof. Dr. Cüneyt Yüksel, Chairman of the Turkey-European Union Joint Parliamentary Committee and AK Party Istanbul Deputy İsmail Emrah Karayel, and Constitutional Committee member and Denizli Deputy Cahit Özkan, delivered Turkey's notification of intervention in the genocide case filed against Israel.

TURKEY IS THE SEVENTH COUNTRY TO FILE A NOTIFICATION OF INTERVENTION

With this move, Turkey has become the seventh country to file a notification of intervention in the genocide case between South Africa and Israel at the ICJ, following Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, and Spain.

Turkey stands out as the most significant regional country to have filed a notification of intervention to date.

It is expected that the Court will inform Israel and South Africa, the parties to the case, about Turkey's initiative—which was made under Article 63 of the Statute of the Court—and that both countries will submit their observations regarding Turkey's notification of intervention to the Court.

SOCIAL MEDIA POST FROM HAKAN FİDAN

Regarding the matter, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan made the following statement on his social media account:

"We have just submitted our application for intervention in the genocide case filed against Israel to the International Court of Justice.

Emboldened by the impunity for the crimes it commits, Israel kills more innocent Palestinians every day.

The international community must do its part to stop the genocide; it must exert the necessary pressure on Israel and its supporters.

Turkey will continue to make every effort in this path."
