Turmoil continues in İYİ Party: 'I was not allowed to hold a press conference'
Lawyer Günay Kodaz, who announced her candidacy for the İYİ Party chairmanship, claimed that the party's general secretariat did not allow her to make a statement in front of the headquarters. Kodaz said, "They have confused the public."
Lawyer Günay Kodaz, who announced her candidacy for the İYİ Party chairmanship, claimed that the party's general secretariat did not allow her to make a statement in front of the headquarters.
Kodaz used the following expressions in her statement:
“They have confused the public regarding whether I am a candidate or not. It was my legal right. I am still a founding member, I am still a party member. And I am still a supreme board delegate. They wanted to smear my candidacy journey. There is an expulsion process, but it has not been finalized. Our case is ongoing. I submitted a petition stating that I meet the conditions for the chairmanship candidacy. And I wanted to make a statement at the headquarters. At first, they got back to me and said, 'You can do it.' They made press announcements for other candidates. However, they did not make a press announcement for me. They stated that I should make the press announcement myself. Upon this, I prepared a press statement myself. But when they got back to me today, they stated that I would not be allowed to make a press statement at the headquarters. They said that Koray Bey and I could not make a statement after this hour. They allowed me to make a statement on April 17. Today, 3 days later, they said I could not make a statement. I view this decision with suspicion”
POINTED TO AYFER YILMAZ AS RESPONSIBLE
Holding İYİ Party Secretary General Ayfer Yılmaz responsible for this decision, Kodaz said, “Some within the İYİ Party did not want me to take the podium and address the voters because I would win their hearts. They are trying to eliminate the only female candidate in this race out of concern that I might convince the voters. First, they said I could not be a candidate despite it being legal, and they tried to confuse the supreme board delegates. After realizing they could not prevent this, they said you can be a candidate” she stated.
Kodaz said that this situation is a political discourtesy and contrary to the principle of equality.
