Two-page letter reveals sexual abuse: 12-year-old girl reported it to her teacher

In the Karadeniz Ereğli district, a 12-year-old girl named M.D. went to her guidance counselor and said she wanted to talk about what she had been through. The teacher asked M.D. to write down the events she experienced in her own handwriting.

Upon learning what the young child had been through, the teacher went to the local police station and reported the situation to the police teams. When the family was called from the police station and went to be with their child, they were shocked to hear the allegations of sexual abuse.

The brother-in-law, K.K., was taken into custody in Istanbul following the accusations. Brought before the duty prosecutor, K.K. denied the accusations. It was learned that K.K., who was released under judicial control, had his employment contract terminated after the family reached out to the school administration.

M.D.'s father, V.D., said, "We only found out about this incident thanks to our guidance counselor. The other day, our child went directly to her teacher at school. The teacher, thankfully, asked my daughter to write down everything she had been through, page by page, in her own handwriting, without any issues. Our child wrote down what she had been through. The teacher went to the Karadeniz Ereğli police station with the statements in hand. She went to the police station and explained the situation."

Explaining that they were informed about the situation when they were called from the police station, V.D. said, "She said she had been abused by her brother-in-law since she was 8 years old. At that first moment, I didn't even understand what was happening. I asked again. The guidance counselor enlightened me a great deal," he said.

"IT HAD DRIVEN US CRAZY AT FIRST"

Stating that it never crossed their minds that such a thing could be done by K.K., whom they hosted in their home, V.D. said, "Hearing such a thing about someone who constantly comes to our house, even thinking that it happened, had driven us crazy at first. After my wife and I read what our child wrote, we became unable to think about anything else," he stated.

Explaining that his 12-year-old daughter M.D. gave her statement in the presence of an expert, V.D. said, "When her statement was taken, the prosecutor took it again during the follow-up. So that there would be no question marks in his mind. He referred him for arrest. But when we look at it, this person was released in Istanbul with judicial control and a travel ban. We immediately appealed this," he said.

"YOU CANNOT SUSPECT BECAUSE YOU CANNOT IMAGINE IT"

Stating that they learned from her statements that his daughter M.D. was taken to a wooded area by her brother-in-law K.K., father V.D. said, "Apparently there is a wooded, bushy area near the Organized Industrial Zone (OSB) in Alaplı. She says he took her there on the dates she mentioned. My wife and I were working. My children were staying with their grandmother. This person also constantly comes to visit from Istanbul. Since the children stay with their grandmother, it is very easy for him to get close. He can take them out to shopping malls. Because you don't suspect, it's someone in your family. It's someone you constantly sit and talk with, eat and drink with, and travel with. Because you cannot imagine it, you don't suspect, but how were we to know that the person had a corrupt nature inside?" he said.

"HE WAS ABLE TO DO AS HE PLEASED"

Explaining that they came together for a funeral when they lost a relative last year, V.D. said, "The child says she went there even during the time of the funeral. My child cannot give such detailed dates. He was able to do as he pleased. Because he was free, he could move comfortably. Even though the people around him knew he was a child abuser, they didn't speak up," he reacted.

Claiming that before his daughter M.D., their close relatives, 23-year-old K.D. and her 25-year-old sister I.A., were also subjected to abuse by K.K., V.D. said, "They are currently living in Gebze. Even though this incident was known, it was not brought to light for years. Why they didn't want it to be brought to light, they know themselves. Because my wife and I didn't know about this situation either. But some people other than us knew," he said.

"I WANT HIM TO BE ARRESTED"

Demanding that K.K. be arrested, father V.D. said, "I want him to be arrested to the fullest extent. I am not a prosecutor, I am not a judge. I don't know what sentence will be given. When you tell people, it sounds like a story. There is no such thing as trust left for people anymore," he said.
