According to the statement made by UEFA, the fine was issued because the chants and banners in support of Palestine displayed by the home Celtic fans during the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw on October 25, were evaluated as "provocative messages of an offensive nature."

The Scottish representative was also fined an additional 11 thousand 500 euros for blocking passageways that were required to remain clear and for the lighting of fireworks. Atletico Madrid was fined 3 thousand euros for the lighting of fireworks.

During the match where they hosted Atletico Madrid, Celtic fans chanted "Walk on, walk on; with hope in your heart; and you'll never walk alone!" and filled the stadium with Palestinian flags.

Celtic, which has supported Palestine for many years, has previously been fined by UEFA for similar reasons.
