Uğur Dündar defends Hafize Gaye Erkan; Ahmet Hakan says 'Good for him'
Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, known for his proximity to the government, said 'Good for him' to Uğur Dündar for defending Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan.
Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan and her father Erol Erkan have become the center of attention due to allegations raised against them.
Büşra Bozkurt, who stated that she worked in the Central Bank governor's office, claimed in a complaint filed with CİMER that she was dismissed by Gaye Erkan's father, Erol Erkan.
While the repercussions of the complaint filed with CİMER continue, Sözcü columnist Uğur Dündar defended Hafize Gaye Erkan in a post on his social media account.
In his post, Dündar included the following statements;
“Central Bank Governor Gaye Erkan has a nursing baby. Instead of hiring a nanny, her mother and father look after the baby. To ensure work is not disrupted during breastfeeding hours, they go to the bank with her and stay there until late hours. A bank employee has been voicing allegations regarding Gaye Erkan’s father for a few days. One of these is the claim that father Erol Erkan slapped a staff member. However, at the beginning of January, a staff member named Kübra sent a WhatsApp message to her mother, Gamze Hanım, stating that she feared violating the rights of others and warned her that such a slander would be made. Indeed, while Gaye Erkan was in the US trying to find resources for Turkey, this slander was served. It is understood that some people are severely disturbed by Gaye Erkan’s efforts.”
FROM AHMET HAKAN TO UĞUR DÜNDAR: GOOD FOR HIM
Following Dündar’s defense of Hafize Gaye Erkan, pro-government journalist Ahmet Hakan wrote in his column today, “With his approach to the Gaye Erkan incident, Uğur Dündar has shattered this tribal mentality. He did not sacrifice his sense of fairness to the camp he belongs to.”
In his article titled “Moves outside the camp from Uğur Dündar”, Hakan stated the following;
“I am writing this independently of the content: In a Turkey divided into camps, no one has been stepping outside their camp to surprise anyone for a long time. If the residents of one camp say 'A', the residents of the other camp automatically say 'B'. With his approach to the Gaye Erkan incident, Uğur Dündar has shattered this tribal mentality. He did not sacrifice his sense of fairness to the camp he belongs to. That is why I say good for him.”
