For two days in Turkey, people have been searching for answers to the questions of 'why was Instagram closed' and 'when will it be reopened'. The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) imposed an access ban on Instagram on August 2, 2024. It is not yet known when the ban will be lifted.

The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) blocked access to the social media platform Instagram on August 2 on the grounds that it did not comply with "catalog crimes".

As the Instagram ban continues into its third day, no official statement has been made regarding when the platform will be reopened.

Journalist Uğur Dündar reacted to the Instagram ban in a post on his social media account.

"IF IT REMAINS CLOSED FOR 52 DAYS, THE LOSS WILL EQUAL THE SAVINGS PACKAGE"

In his post titled "Banned Instagram, Impoverished Turkey!..", Dündar explained the cost of Instagram remaining closed to the Turkish economy.

Dündar used the following expressions in his post:

"The daily cost of Instagram remaining closed to the Turkish economy is: 1.9 billion liras."

"The total size of the 'Public Savings Package' was 100 billion liras. If Instagram remains closed for just 52 days, Turkey will suffer a loss equal to the savings package."

"The ban imposed on Instagram will most affect the economies of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, and Antalya. Open Instagram immediately!.."
