Uğur Mumcu commemorated in Aliağa on the 32nd anniversary of his death

The commemoration ceremony held at Uğur Mumcu Park was attended by the ADD Aliağa branch, as well as the CHP Aliağa District administration, party members, municipal council members, components of the Aliağa Labor and Democracy Platform, and citizens. The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem.

In his speech at the ceremony, ADD Aliağa Branch President Erol Çetinkaya touched upon the importance of the events they organized within the framework of the 2025 Justice and Democracy Week to keep social memory alive. Çetinkaya included the following statements in his speech:

“The series of murders committed against our intellectuals before and after the fascist coup of September 12, 1980, were the work of dark forces targeting the fundamental values of our Republic. This chain of murders, in which the founders and administrators of the Association for Kemalist Thought were specifically targeted, began with Prof. Dr. Muammer Aksoy and caused us to lose our values such as Bahriye Üçok, Çetin Emeç, and Uğur Mumcu. Unfortunately, these murders were not solved, and the perpetrators were not brought to justice. In these murders, the instigators are as evident as the perpetrators, but justice has not been served. That brick could never be pulled, that wall could never be torn down.”

CARNATIONS LEFT AT THE UĞUR MUMCU MONUMENT

Following Erol Çetinkaya's speech, Ege Laçinel recited Nazım Hikmet's poem titled “On Living.” Later, Nazike Yaşır, a member of the ADD Aliağa Branch Board of Directors, gave a speech on the meaning and importance of the day. The commemoration ceremony ended with the participants leaving carnations at the Uğur Mumcu Monument.
