Ümit Karan's drug test result released

Out of 23 people detained as part of a 'drug' investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 13 suspects, including former football player Ümit Karan, were arrested.

As part of the investigation, the drug test of former national football player Ümit Karan, whose hair and blood samples were taken at the Council of Forensic Medicine, came back positive. It was learned that the 'cocaine' substance tested positive in both his blood and hair.

HE HAD BEEN ARRESTED

The operation was carried out by the Istanbul Police Department's Narcotics Crimes Division and Organized Crimes Division as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Bureau of Investigation for Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes.

Suspect Karan was detained by police teams at Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

The 23 suspects, including former football player Ümit Karan, who were detained as part of the drug investigation, were taken to the courthouse after their procedures at the police station.

The suspects Ümit Karan, Timuçin Ünal, Gökmen Gürdeğir, Orhan Aydın, Emircan Şahin, Emre Yalçın, Gökhan Gümüş, Nuray İstek, Deniz Berk Cengiz, Murat Sönmez, Hakan Tunçbilek, Ahmet Şaşmaz, Melis Sabah, and Nazlıcan Taşkın, whose statements were taken at the prosecutor's office, were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest.

Fatih Gürdeğir, Ali Gürbüz, Emir Sağıroğlu, Ulaş Yağmur, Burak Doğan, Mert Ayaydın, Merve Duran, Bade Nogay, and Çağla Boz were sent to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for judicial control.

The judgeship decided to arrest 13 suspects, including Ümit Karan, and to apply judicial control measures for 9 suspects.

Meanwhile, suspect Nazlıcan Taşkın could not be questioned by the judgeship as she was taken to the hospital during her procedures at the courthouse.
