Ümit Özdağ: 'May God have mercy once again on Türkeş, who did not fear slander'

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ shared a commemorative message on the anniversary of Alparslan Türkeş's death. Özdağ stated, "May God have mercy once again on Türkeş, who did not fear slander, who dedicated his entire life to the idea of the 'unity of the Turkic World,' and who gave his final political message two hours before his passing by saying, 'Atatürk is the Himalaya of Turkish history.'"

Özdağ, who is being tried while detained at Silivri Prison, made the following post on his social media account:

“May 21, 1963. Retired Staff Colonel Talat Aydemir carries out his second coup attempt following the first one on February 21, 1962.

The late Alparslan Türkeş, Muzaffer Özdağ, and Rıfat Baykal were among the first 14 members to return from exile abroad.

They were aware of Aydemir's coup attempt. However, they did not participate in the coup, nor did they support it. Despite this, on the afternoon of May 21, Muzaffer Özdağ received news that Alparslan Türkeş had been taken into custody.

In a great rage, he went from the Saraçoğlu neighborhood to the General Directorate of Security.

As he climbed the stairs of the General Directorate of Security two or three at a time, he encountered the Director General of Security and shouted, 'Why did you take Türkeş into custody?' The Director General of Security replied, 'We were looking for you too, Mr. Özdağ.' Later, Rıfat Baykal was also taken into custody and arrested. All three were tried with the death penalty. They were acquitted.

They published their defenses jointly in a booklet titled ‘Defenses.’ The late Türkeş wrote a short foreword to the booklet and said, in essence: ‘True courage is not physical courage, which is not fearing death. True courage is not fearing slander.’

Today is April 4.

May God have mercy once again on Türkeş, who did not fear slander, who dedicated his entire life to the idea of the 'unity of the Turkic World,' and who gave his final political message two hours before his passing by saying, 'Atatürk is the Himalaya of Turkish history.'”
