Ümit Özdağ met with the father of Ege Akersoy, who punched a citizen waving a caliphate flag

A young man punched İsmail Aydemir, who was returning from a pro-Palestine march on the Galata Bridge while carrying a Kelime-i Tevhid flag, saying, "You are an Arab lover."

Other citizens who witnessed the fistfight tried to separate the two. Ege Akersoy, who was taken into custody by police teams, was arrested by the court to which he was referred following his procedures at the police station.

Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chairman Ümit Özdağ announced that he had met with Ege Akersoy's father.

"HE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A FIGHT IN HIS LIFE"

Here is what Özdağ shared regarding the meeting:

"Ege Akersoy, who was arrested for throwing a punch a short while ago, is a 4th-year electrical and electronics engineering student at Yıldız Technical University. He receives a scholarship because he is a successful student.

Ege's father is a retired officer. I spoke with him a little while ago. He said that Ege has never been in a fight in his life and does not know how to fight. 'However,' his father said, 'he had been very resentful and overwhelmed by the disrespect shown to the Turkish flag and Atatürk in recent days. I wish he hadn't done it.'

On the other hand, information coming from the police station indicates that Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya called the station. Ege Akersoy has been arrested. I have not heard of any investigation regarding the person who attacked Ege Akersoy while he was with the police. I will follow the matter."
