Ümit Özdağ: The public does not believe in the operation aimed at creating the image that 'all corruption was committed by CHP municipalities'

Out of 99 people referred to court with a request for arrest as part of the investigation into the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, a total of 60 people, including former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, CHP İzmir Provincial Chairman Şenol Aslanoğlu, and İZBETON General Manager Heval Savaş Kaya, were arrested. 

Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ reacted to Soyer's arrest. Stating, "Tunç Soyer cannot tamper with evidence and will not flee. He should not have been arrested," Özdağ noted the following:

“During his time as the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, I harshly criticized some of Tunç Soyer's rhetoric and policies. Because of this, when he came to visit Silivri Prison, he told the lawyer friend who accompanied him, 'Ümit Özdağ will not agree to meet with me.'

When the lawyer conveyed this to me, I laughed and said, 'Of course I will meet with him.' And we had a long conversation. Tunç Soyer was arrested today. I do not know the allegations or the file. However, Tunç Soyer cannot tamper with evidence and will not flee. He should not have been arrested.

The public does not believe in an image-building operation suggesting that all corruption was committed by CHP municipalities. Political tension will not decrease until the application of enemy criminal law practices is ended.”
