UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric answered questions from journalists at his daily press briefing.

Stating that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres held a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati last week, Dujarric drew attention to the rising tension in the region.

Dujarric noted that there is a mechanism led by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which provides a means of communication between Lebanese and Israeli military officials, and said, "We call on the parties to use this mechanism to reduce tension."

Dujarric used the expression, "We are deeply concerned about the situation in the South (Lebanon border)."

In the clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah on the Israel-Lebanon border since October 8, 26 Hezbollah members, 6 members of the Islamic Jihad Movement, 3 members of Hamas, and 2 members of the Hezbollah-backed Sunni Resistance Brigade have been killed, along with 4 civilians, one of whom was a journalist.

In attacks carried out from the Lebanese side, 3 Israeli soldiers and one Israeli civilian have lost their lives.
