UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk: Immediate ceasefire in Gaza is essential

United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk has called on the international community to put an end to Israel's attacks on Gaza.

Türk reported that 16,248 Palestinians have lost their lives and more than 9,100 people have been injured in the attacks carried out by Israel on Gaza.

Emphasizing that hospitals in Gaza have been severely damaged by the attacks and that places where thousands of civilians had taken shelter have been destroyed, Türk stated, "This situation is further deepening the humanitarian crisis."

Reminding that the 4-day humanitarian pause reached between Israel and Hamas on November 24 has also ended, Türk said, "The Israeli army resumed its attacks immediately after the pause ended on December 1."

Türk called out, "The international community must make every effort to bring this conflict to an end as soon as possible."
