Union of Turkish Bar Associations President gives date regarding Narin Güran case

The investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, has been completed regarding the 4 detained suspects.  

While the trial, which held its first hearing today at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court, is ongoing, TBB President Erinç Sağkan made statements to members of the press in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse after the court panel took a break from the Narin Güran case.

Describing what happened in court, Sağkan said, “Today, at the first hearing of the case we have been following for months, we conveyed the requests of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and our bar associations to join the case to the court panel within this framework. The court panel did not find the requests of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations and our bar associations to join the case appropriate.”

WHAT IS THE LATEST STATUS IN THE HEARING? 

Providing information about the hearing, Sağkan stated the following:

“In the first part until noon, the statements of 2 suspects, Nevzat Bahtiyar and Enes Güran, were taken. Their direct questioning has been completed. In the afternoon session, the statements of the other suspects will continue. As far as I can understand, we are facing a trial process that will continue, including Sunday. In the process until noon, we all observed that they continued to give statements within the framework of the suspects' initial testimonies, and that they continued to maintain the attitude they have held since the first day by avoiding giving statements against the direct cross-examination method and stating that they 'could not remember' at every point. However, the questions asked by the lawyers, the answers that could not be given, the answers that were given, and some answers given through evasion actually give us hope that steps are gradually being taken towards reaching the concrete truth. However, I believe that after the statements of the other suspects are taken in the afternoon session, we will have the opportunity to reach satisfactory answers together and share them with you.”
