Up to 11 years and 9 months in prison sought for journalist Furkan Karabay!
An indictment has been accepted against journalist Furkan Karabay, seeking a total of 11 years and 9 months in prison for three separate charges based on his social media posts. It has been learned that Karabay will be tried for "insulting public officials," "targeting those involved in the fight against terrorism," and "publicly disseminating misleading information."

According to the indictment, a prison sentence of up to 11 years and 9 months is being sought for Karabay on charges of "insulting public officials," "targeting those involved in the fight against terrorism," and "publicly disseminating misleading information."
In the indictment, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Can Tuncay, and former Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor and current Court of Cassation member Şaban Yılmaz are listed as "victims," while Furkan Karabay is listed as the "suspect."
The indictment states that the post subject to the investigation was made by Karabay on his X account on November 6, 2024, and notes that in his statement, Karabay confirmed he made the post but did not accept the charges brought against him.
The indictment alleges that in the same post, regarding the ongoing investigation into Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was arrested and suspended from duty, Karabay "disclosed the identities of Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek and Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor Can Tuncay by explicitly writing their names in a way that would target them for terrorist organizations."
HE WILL APPEAR BEFORE THE JUDGE ON MAY 27
The indictment, which alleges that Furkan Karabay committed the crimes of "publicly insulting a public official due to their duty in a chain manner," "targeting those who have served in the fight against terrorism in a chain manner," and "publicly disseminating misleading information," requests a total prison sentence ranging from 3 years and 6 months to 11 years and 9 months for Karabay.
The indictment, which was sent to the Istanbul 22nd High Criminal Court, was accepted following a review by the court panel.
Furkan Karabay will appear before the judge on May 27.
