Update on the black box of the crashed C-130 military cargo plane: We have lost 20 soldiers as martyrs
In an incident that plunged Turkey into mourning, a C-130 military cargo plane crashed yesterday in a mountainous area in the Signagi Municipality of Georgia's Kakheti region. The efforts of the accident investigation and search and rescue teams, who arrived in the region, continued into the second day with the support of helicopters starting from the morning hours. According to the latest information, the plane's black box has been recovered.
Search and rescue operations, in which teams from the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs and Georgian army units are actively participating, were monitored on-site by Minister of Internal Affairs Geka Geladze and Minister of Defense Irakli Chikovani.
Although many military and search and rescue vehicles began to leave the area as it grew dark, it was observed that operations at the crash site continued throughout the night.
During the night hours, 3 helicopters and several ambulances and fire trucks also departed from the wreckage site.
During the operations, which included search and rescue teams and experts who arrived from Turkey early in the morning, members of the press were permitted to follow developments from approximately one kilometer away.
THE BLACK BOX OF THE CRASHED PLANE WAS FOUND
AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking at his party's Extended Provincial Heads Meeting held at the AKP Conference Hall, made the following statements regarding the military cargo plane that crashed on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border:
"The black box of our plane has been found, and investigations have been initiated. We have reached the remains of 19 of our martyrs. Our search efforts for our final martyr are ongoing."
BLACK BOX BROUGHT TO TURKEY
Within the scope of the efforts, the plane's black box, which will shed light on the cause of the accident, was recovered.
It was reported that the black box has been brought to Turkey for examination.
Meanwhile, while experts are working on a preliminary report at the wreckage, it was learned that the parts collected from the site will be taken to the military base in Kayseri for examination.
