Instagram statement from Uraloğlu: 'I received a reaction far, far below what I expected'

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu met with 417 intern students as part of the National Internship Program Traditional Career Meeting held at the PTT Ahlatlıbel Facilities.

Speaking there, Uraloğlu touched upon the access block imposed on Instagram and the 8-day ban.

“Sometimes, some events develop so quickly that you need to take a quick position there. This process was like that too,” said Uraloğlu, adding, “I can say that I received a reaction from the public far, far below what I expected on this matter. There is an international company here and its rules. You are a country, and it also has its rules, laws, and sensitivities. What is important here: is it a company's rules, a country's laws, or a nation's sentiments? We live in a country where there are nearly 60 million social media users and where Instagram has one of its top 10 user bases in the world. We do not have a restrictive mentality. I think rather than why we closed these platforms, we should question together why we were forced to close them,” he stated.

Stating that social media platforms remove posts without being bound by any rules, Uraloğlu said, “We can discuss who is the restrictive one, them or us. We have provided and received the general response to our reasons for closing Instagram.”
