US statement on Ezgi Eygi, killed by Israel: We expect the findings to be made public

The US Department of State has called on Israel to conduct a "swift, thorough, and transparent investigation" into the killing of American-Turkish activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi in the occupied West Bank and to make its findings public.

'WE EXPECT THEM TO MAKE THE FINDINGS PUBLIC'

Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel addressed the killing of activist Eygi, who was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier in the West Bank, during a daily press briefing. Patel stated, "It is our understanding that our partners in Israel are looking into the circumstances of what happened. We expect them to make those findings public."

Describing the death of an American citizen as "heartbreaking," "concerning," and "tragic," Patel nevertheless avoided using language that would condemn Israel.

'FINDINGS MUST BE TRANSPARENT AND THOROUGH'

The Deputy Spokesperson noted that this incident in the West Bank must be fully "determined and resolved," adding, "We are going to let that process play out." When asked whether the US supports the family's demand for an investigation, Patel replied, "We expect Israel to make its findings public. We expect those findings to be transparent, thorough, and shared as soon as possible."

Vedant Patel noted that it is too early to discuss what the findings might be or whether they would necessitate any additional steps.
