Üsküdar Mayor Dedetaş claims 'AKP spent the budget'

In the March 31 local elections, Üsküdar, known as a stronghold of the AKP, passed to the CHP for the first time since 1994.

Sinem Dedetaş, who won the election in Üsküdar, answered questions during a broadcast on Medyascope.

Claiming that the AKP spent the municipality's social assistance budget on the election, Dedetaş said, “The AKP spent the social assistance budget in Üsküdar on election campaigns. These are issues that will challenge us in terms of budget balance until the end of the year, but we anticipated that this would be the case.”

Dedetaş continued as follows:

“I am putting the debt aside. One might say, ‘The municipality provides services, of course it will incur debt,’ but the fact that certain budgets have been exhausted in terms of election investments is challenging us.

The social assistance budget has been consumed and depleted by the time of the election. We need to transfer funds to the budget so that we can continue social assistance.

Pensioner support comes from the social assistance budget, but we have to find and create this by saving from other areas.”
