Vahap Seçer, President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB) and Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, who was detained on October 1 as part of an investigation conducted by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been referred to the courthouse following a health check.
As part of the investigation, 59 people, including Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit and Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer, in addition to Seçer, had been detained.
It was reported that Seçer and the other mayors were taken to Mersin City Hospital for health checks around 04:30 in the morning, and the suspects were brought to the courthouse after the procedures were completed.
In the "corruption" investigation conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was alleged that, according to initial findings, there was a public loss of 1 billion 10 million 914 thousand TL in the Mezitli Municipality and 105 million TL in the Yenişehir Municipality.
It was also stated in the investigation file that an inquiry was being conducted into Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer for "managing an armed criminal organization" on the allegation that he had ordered armed attacks on the workplaces of people with whom he had a feud.
