Van Bar Association files criminal complaint against Mansur Yavaş

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated in his speech in Saraçhane, “While flags that I consider to be rags were being waved somewhere in the East yesterday, and police were handing out cotton candy to those attending that rally, I do not find the intervention here to be right. We expect the security forces to offer cotton candy to the young people here as well.”

The Van Bar Association announced on its X (Twitter) account that it would file a criminal complaint.

The statement included the following remarks:

"Our Bar Association will file a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the statements made by Mansur Yavaş, who described the peaceful celebration of the Newroz Festival in the province of Şırnak and the act of security forces giving cotton candy to children as if it were a crime, in contrast to the crowd in Istanbul whose rights to assembly and demonstration were unlawfully restricted. On this occasion, we state that we condemn Mansur Yavaş's focus on obstructing rather than exercising constitutional rights, as well as his disrespectful and provocative attitude toward the Kurdish people, and we respectfully inform the public that we will follow the process closely."
