Veil of mystery in Mardin family tragedy: Weapon missing, no signs of forced entry

The tragedy in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin came to light during the night at an apartment building on Mardin Street in the Turgut Özal neighborhood. Neighbors, who had not heard from the residents of the second-floor apartment for a long time, entered the home along with the neighborhood headman (muhtar). Inside, Mehmet Kaya, his wife Berna Kaya, and their daughter Samyeli Kaya were found lying on the floor, having been shot in the head.

Upon receiving the news, police and medical teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. Checks confirmed that all three family members had lost their lives.

The bodies were taken to the morgue at Mardin Training and Research Hospital. Following autopsy procedures, the bodies of mother Berna Kaya and her daughter Samyeli were released to their family and sent to Van. Father Mehmet Kaya was laid to rest in the İşgören neighborhood of Savur after the procedures were completed.

Striking details emerged during the crime scene investigation. According to initial findings, there were no signs of a struggle in the house, and it was determined that there was no forced entry at the door. The weapon used in the incident could not be found in the house. Samyeli Kaya's lifeless body was found on the sofa, while her parents were found in the middle of the room.

The Kızıltepe District Police Department has established a special team to shed light on the incident. The team has begun reviewing footage from the City Security Management System (KGYS) in the district and all security cameras in the vicinity. The police are also taking statements from the family's neighbors and relatives.

Deepening the investigation, the teams also obtained camera footage showing Mehmet Kaya shopping at the market below their home shortly before the incident. In the footage, Kaya is seen chatting with the market owner for a while after shopping and then leaving the market.

As security forces and the prosecutor's office continue their work in the region meticulously, every detail is being examined to lift the veil of mystery behind the incident that took the lives of the family.
