Veli Ağbaba reacts to Gökhan Böcek's 'effective remorse' testimony: Character assassination

Ağbaba issued a written statement regarding the allegations raised by Gökhan Böcek in his "effective remorse" testimony. Ağbaba argued that the allegations "consist solely of slanders that do not align with reality."

In his statement, Veli Ağbaba noted that the allegations in question do not align with reality, stating, "The declarations reflected in the public domain today as Gökhan Böcek's effective remorse testimony consist solely of slanders that do not align with reality."

Asserting that he has had no relationship with Gökhan Böcek in the past, Ağbaba said, "I have never had any relationship, communication, or contact with Gökhan Böcek, neither before the election, nor after the election, nor at any date in the past."

'AĞBABA' ALLEGATION FROM GÖKHAN BÖCEK

While the trial of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, his son Gökhan Böcek, and former Provincial Police Chief İlker Arslan—who were arrested on July 5, 2025, as part of a 'bribery' and 'corruption' investigation conducted by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office—was ongoing, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that Gökhan Böcek had provided testimony under the scope of "effective remorse." In his testimony, Gökhan Böcek alleged, "I was personally called by Veli Ağbaba upon the instruction of Özgür Özel. I spoke with Veli Ağbaba. They requested support from me for the CHP headquarters, and I was asked to provide 1 million Euros."

Claiming that he gave the money to CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba through an intermediary, Böcek stated, "When I asked why this money was requested, Veli Ağbaba said it was requested for my father Muhittin Böcek's Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidacy." Böcek added, "Before these events, as we entered the election process, my father Muhittin Böcek told me, 'The headquarters will have requests for financial and moral support; you will handle these during this election time.' When Veli Ağbaba called, I did not feel the need to ask my father again about the matter of requesting 1 million Euros."

Following the reflection of these allegations in the public domain, CHP's Ağbaba made a statement via his social media account, saying, "It is entirely a product of imagination and consists of slanders; I will file a criminal complaint."

DREW ATTENTION TO CONTRADICTIONS

Following his post, Ağbaba also released a written statement saying the following:

"The declarations reflected in the public domain today as Gökhan Böcek's effective remorse testimony consist solely of slanders that do not align with reality.

I have never had any relationship, communication, or contact with Gökhan Böcek, neither before the election, nor after the election, nor at any date in the past. Even his phone number is not saved in my contacts. I have never known Gökhan Böcek throughout my life. I met him for the first and last time on September 16, 2025, during my prison visit to his father, Muhittin Böcek. Furthermore, in his declarations, he mentioned a 15-day interval as the date he came to the Headquarters. In the examinations conducted, no entry-exit information could be found regarding his arrival at the CHP Headquarters during the 15-day date range he specified.

When he came to Ankara, he could not say who picked him up from the airport, who dropped him off, how he came to the Headquarters, or who he contacted. He could not explain where he got the money he claimed to have given, and alleged that he collected it 'piece by piece from this and that.' In other words, a completely imaginary testimony, which contains no concrete information that could constitute legal evidence, has been served to the public.

I am being slandered, along with my party, with a testimony where no link of the essential chain of evidence can be found or proven.

We will not bow down to such slanders and smear operations that aim for political character assassination. I call on those who organized this slander to examine all my account movements, HTS and base station data, and camera recordings of all relevant locations. I hereby declare that I will file a criminal complaint and initiate slander and compensation lawsuits by using all my legal rights during this process.

Respectfully announced to the public."
