Venue where women were attacked in Beyoğlu shut down

The Divane Cihangir entertainment center, located in the Cihangir neighborhood of Beyoğlu, has been sealed by Beyoğlu Municipality Municipal Police teams following reports of attacks on women.

The Municipal Police Directorate teams took action after footage of the violence and assault at the venue appeared in the media. Due to security concerns and an unlicensed section within the building, it was decided to seal the venue in coordination with law enforcement.

The Istanbul Provincial Police Department announced that the suspects involved in the incident have been referred to judicial authorities.

Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney stated the following in a post on his social media account:

“The establishment that has been in the public eye, which also contained an unlicensed spa section, has been sealed by our municipal police for security reasons in accordance with the letter received from the police department. Beyoğlu will remain a district where women can walk safely at any hour they wish, and where no one will ask, 'What were you doing there at that hour?' We will not allow the environment of peace and security to be disrupted, and we will show no tolerance. I thank our tradespeople who showed sensitivity and reacted, the women who did not give up their rights, our law enforcement officers who caught the criminals and delivered them to justice, and all our neighbors who look after Beyoğlu.”
