Verdict announced in the Kobani Case: Sentences for Ahmet Türk, Figen Yüksekdağ, and Selahattin Demirtaş revealed

The 83rd hearing of the Kobani Case, which includes former HDP co-chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, was held today at the Sincan Prison Execution Institutions Campus by the Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court.

10-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR AHMET TÜRK

The presiding judge began reading the 130-page verdict, stating, "The file has been examined, and there are no remaining issues requiring further investigation. In summary, I will explain who was given what kind of sentences for which crimes. In reaching this conscientious conviction, the evidence in the file was examined and such a conscientious conviction was reached." As the judge announced the verdict regarding Ahmet Türk, lawyers and spectators in the courtroom began protesting with applause and slogans. As the lawyers left the courtroom amidst the protests, the presiding judge paused the reading of the verdict.

The verdict continued to be read in the absence of the defendants and their lawyers. Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk was acquitted of the charge of undermining the integrity of the state, but was sentenced to 10 years in prison for membership in a terrorist organization.

ACQUITTALS FOR AYHAN BİLGEN AND ALTAN TAN

Ayla Akat was acquitted of the charge of undermining the unity and integrity of the state, but was sentenced to 9 years and 9 months in prison for membership in a terrorist organization. It was decided that Akat would be released, taking into account the time she has spent in detention.

Ayhan Bilgen was acquitted of both the charges of undermining the unity and integrity of the state and membership in a terrorist organization.

Altan Tan was acquitted of the charges of undermining the unity and integrity of the state and establishing a terrorist organization.

Tan was also acquitted of the other charges against him.

Ali Ürküt was sentenced to 13 years and 4 months in prison for aiding in the crime of undermining the unity of the state, and 3 years and 9 months for inciting to commit a crime.

Alp Altınörs was sentenced to 18 years in prison for aiding in the crime of undermining the unity and integrity of the state, and 4 years and 6 months for inciting to commit a crime.

FİGEN YÜKSEKDAĞ'S SENTENCE ANNOUNCED

Figen Yüksekdağ was sentenced to 19 years in prison for aiding in the crime of undermining the unity and integrity of the state, 4 years and 6 months for inciting to commit a crime, and 1 year and 6 months for spreading terrorist organization propaganda. Former HDP Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ was sentenced to 2 years in prison for violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911, and was also sentenced to a total of 3 years in prison—1 year and 6 months each—for two separate speeches on charges of terrorist organization propaganda. Yüksekdağ, who was also sentenced to 3 months in prison for violating election bans, received a total sentence of 30 years and 3 months, and it was ruled that her detention would continue.

GÜLTAN KIŞANAK ACQUITTED

Gültan Kışanak was acquitted of the charge of undermining the unity and integrity of the state, but was sentenced to 12 years in prison for membership in an organization. It was ruled that Kışanak would be released, taking into account the time she has spent in detention.

42 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SELAHATTİN DEMİRTAŞ

Selahattin Demirtaş was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "aiding in undermining the unity and integrity of the state," which was commuted to 20 years in prison. Demirtaş was also sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for inciting to commit a crime. Former HDP Co-Chair Demirtaş was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months for his Nevruz speech in Diyarbakır, and 1 year and 6 months for "encouraging the public not to obey the laws" in his speech on February 29, 2016. Demirtaş was also sentenced to 4 years and 6 months for terrorist organization propaganda, 3 years for inciting an illegal demonstration, 2 years and 6 months for violating Law No. 2911, 1 year and 6 months for praising a crime and a criminal, and 2 years for terrorist organization propaganda due to his speech at the 'No to the Coup' rally. It was decided that Demirtaş's detention would continue. Demirtaş's total sentence reached 42 years.

SABAHAT TUNCEL ACQUITTED

Sabahat Tuncel was acquitted of the charge of undermining the unity and integrity of the state, but was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the crime of organization membership.

It was ruled that Tuncel would be released, taking into account her time in detention.

SIRRI SÜREYYA ÖNDER ACQUITTED

It was ruled that DEM Party Parliamentary Deputy Speaker Sırrı Süreyya Önder would be acquitted and that his judicial control measures would be lifted.
