He burned the body after murdering him: Verdict in the Halil Özdemir murder case in Fatih, Istanbul! 'I had no intention to kill'

Following the discovery of a burned male corpse at the International Peace Park in the Kazlıçeşme neighborhood of Fatih, Istanbul, on May 12, 2023, an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office determined that the body belonged to Halil Özdemir (40). Examining the crime scene camera footage, teams determined that Özdemir was last seen with Meryem El Haşimi (25).

SHE CONFESSED TO HITTING HIM WITH A BASEBALL BAT

The prepared indictment stated that in her testimony, El Haşimi explained that she had met Halil Özdemir 3 years ago and that he had come to her home on the day of the incident. El Haşimi said that because she thought Özdemir was going to attack her, she hit him on the head 1-2 times with a baseball bat, tried to stop the bleeding with a towel, and waited for him to wake up.

SHE EXPLAINED THAT SHE BURNED THE BODY TO LEAVE NO TRACE

It was noted that El Haşimi stated that when Özdemir did not wake up, she obtained a wheelbarrow from a bicycle shop the next morning, placed the body in a bag, transported it to a park about 1 kilometer away, and burned the body to leave no trace. She also confessed to later selling Özdemir's bicycle.

SHE HAD NO INTENTION TO KILL!

Defending herself in the case heard at the Istanbul High Criminal Court, El Haşimi stated that she had no intention of intentionally killing Halil Özdemir and requested her acquittal.

SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The court concluded that the defendant Meryem El Haşimi had committed the crime of "intentional killing," sentenced her to life imprisonment, and ruled for the continuation of her detention.
